Olivier & Lafont

A small negociant project located in the Rhône Valley, Olivier & Lafont was founded in 2011 by two top consultant winemakers, Baptiste Olivier and Gerald Lafont. Friends first and foremost, winemaking runs in the blood for Baptiste and Gerald, both born into winemaking families, giving rise to a natural passion for wine from the offset. Both obtained their National Diplomas of Oenology and went on to gain ample experience working as consultant winemakers across France and beyond. Ten years of which were spent working individually for top estates in Châteauneuf du Pape and various areas of the Rhône, making invaluable connections, and forming partnerships with some very prestigious clients, giving them access to some of the best fruit of the region.

With full control over all aspects of the viticultural practices and winemaking process, today they work with around 15 hectares across the Rhône, including Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Crozes-Hermitage, and Lirac. The depth of knowledge and insight into the area that these two winemakers possess, combined with a balance of traditional and modern winemaking methods, and their esteemed connections, shines through in these terroir-driven wines of amazing finesse and pure fruit expression. There is no wonder this talented team are getting people talking.

(Châteauneuf du Pape Rouge 2022) "A robust, structured and focused red with notes of blackberries, currants, warm herbs, grilled meat and baking spices. It’s full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Dense and ample with a vivid center palate. Dark berries mingle nicely with loads of spices emerging on the mid-palate. Such drive, restrained power and intense character. Flavorful and long in the finish" James Suckling (June 2024)

(Crozes-Hermitage 2020) "Opaque violet. Lively aromas of fresh blackberry, cherry, olive, candied flowers and a spicy touch of black pepper. Bright and energetic in style, offering pliant black and blue fruit flavors and hints of candied violet, olive and licorice. Picks up a smoky nuance with air and finishes juicy and long, leaving behind resonating spice and floral notes." 92 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous (December 2022)
