Lagar de Costa

Lagar de Costa is small family run winery located on the Atlantic shore, opposite the island of La Toja in the heart of the Salnes. Lagar de Costa has a long tradition of growing Albariño which goes back to the beginning of the 20th century, but it has only been bottling its fruit since 2001.

Some of the vineyards are more than 50 years old and yields are kept well below the DO average. The soil is predominantly sandy and the ocean influence keeps the temperature at a yearly average of 14 degrees.

The production of their Albarino undergoes rigorous control in both the vineyards and cellars. Only the best selection of grapes go to make up the final wine. In the winery, traditional process and values are partnered with modern techniques to ensure the highest quality product. This is a true expression of this exciting grape varietal, which offers depth, exuberant floral character and minerality.

(Albariño 2022) "Fragrant white flower and herb aromas. Crisp and promising with very bright lemon notes, salinity and a flinty, steely palate. A long citrus finish. Quite young and could age further." 93 points, Sarah Jane Evans MW, Decanter (October 2023)

(Albariño Tradición 2020) "They want to show the added complexity of aging Albariño in a neutral oak foudre with their 2020 Albariño - Tradición, which reveals a perfumed nose with lots of herbs and flowers, balsamic. It has a round palate and a mellow sensation, and it's polished, despite the high acidity and notable freshness, coming through as tender and complex." 92 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (November 2023)
